If a company has negligently or intentionally made promises to you, and then breached those promises, you may be entitled to damages sustained as a result of reasonably relying on those promises.

If the promises were made to a large group of persons who are in a similar position as you, then you may file a class action lawsuit on behalf of all of the persons damaged.

In order for the case to proceed to a recovery, the judge must review your case to see if all of the persons have the same type of claim. If you pass this important hurdle, the class may be "certified" by the judge as a class action and proceed to trial or settlement.

Sometimes a couple of the cases will be singled out by both sides as typical cases. These cases then can proceed to trial, in order to determine whether there is liability, and if so, the value of the cases.
